Chebyshev Expansions: Background and Computing in the C++/Python Library ChebTools

Description:
Chebyshev polynomials are important tools in numerical analysis. One way in which they are important, is sometimes they allow for high accuracy computing with relatively small computational cost. We discuss the mathematical background of Chebyshev polynomials for a beginner audience. We also discuss advantages of computing with Chebyshev approximations of functions and give examples using Chebyshev expansions in practice. Finally, we show the features of the new C++/Python library ChebTools, which is a library inspired by the MATLAB library chebfun.
